Author lecture

Jonathan Safran Foer, bestselling author of “Everything Is Illuminated” and “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close,” will speak at the People of the Book lecture at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Congregation Achduth Vesholom, 5200 Old Mill Road. Free admission.

Book sale

The Friends of the North Manchester Public Library will hold a used book, CD, DVD and audio book sale 9 a.m.-5 p.m. May 17-18 at 405 N. Market St., North Manchester.

Grand opening celebration

The Roanoke Public Library will hold an open house 9 a.m.-1 p.m. May 4 at 126 N. Main St., Roanoke. Refreshments will be served and 16 authors will be present.

Library board member honored

Peabody Public Library honored Jonathan Myers for his 16 years of service as a board member. Myers is senior counsel for Lincoln Financial Group.

New book

Ivy Tech Community College-Northeast English instructor and northeast Indiana native Troy Bigelow has written his first, full-length book of poetry, “Resuscitivity.” Bigelow will hold book readings and signings at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Garrett Public Library and at 6:30 p.m. May 6 at Eckhart Public Library, Auburn. “Resuscitivity” is available at area bookstores and www.pavementsaw.org.

Bookflix

Bookflix is for ages 6-14 who like to read and watch movies and meets at 4 p.m. May 6 and 20 at Tecumseh branch library, 1411 E. State Blvd.

Adult book group

The adult book group meets at 2 p.m. May 29 at Aboite branch library, 5630 Coventry Lane. This month's book is “State of Wonder” by Ann Patchett.
