People interested in a possible summer camp, horseback riding and possibly a setting for a private or corporate event can check out Camp Red Cedar during an open house from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday.
The 57-acre camp is located at 3900 Hursh Road north of Fort Wayne.
The open house will include guided tours of the grounds, including a new customized cabin funded by the AWS Foundation, a news release said. The cabin sleeps 12, has two sides so it can accommodate male and female campers at the same time, and has two fully accessible restrooms. Other recent improvements funded by the Foundation include a new sewer system and fully accessible restrooms in the barn and bath house.
Open house activities also will include snacks and refreshments; information about summer camps, rentals and riding lessons; and a brief program on the barn porch at 4:30 p.m. to thank AWS Foundation for its support, the news release said.
Summer camps start June 3 and continue through Aug. 9. Camp Red Cedar also offers a full range of riding lessons, including therapeutic horseback riding.
The camp serves children with and without disabilities and adults with disabilities.
Camp Red Cedar is part of a nonprofit arm of AWS, which works “to help children and adults with disabilities live as independently as possible, be included in the community and function at their maximum potential,” the news release said.
