Copper thieves are hitting the highway – Interstate 69, in this case.Indiana State Police are investigating the theft of nearly a half-mile of heavy copper wire that occurred within the last few weeks, and they're asking the public for help in finding the thieves.

Master Trooper Gary Gerardot said that sometime between March 22 and April 16, an unknown person or people removed approximately 2,400 feet of buried No. 4 copper wire, valued at several thousand dollars, from overhead light posts located on I-69 in the area of the 308 mile-marker in Allen County.

Gerardot asks anyone with information about this theft to call the Indiana State Police post in Fort Wayne at 432-8661 or 1-800-552-0976. The toll-free number works only in Indiana.
