WEST LAFAYETTE — Indiana State Excise Police say they've arrested or cited 288 people at events surrounding Indiana University's Little 500 bicycle race and Purdue University's Grand Prix cart race.
Excise officers said Sunday they cited 53 at Purdue, mostly for alcohol-related offenses that included illegal possession or consumption of alcohol and possession of false IDs. Officers charged nine adults with furnishing alcohol to minors. One man was arrested on preliminary charges of felony battery on law enforcement, resisting arrest, illegal possession of alcohol and possession of false ID.
In Bloomington, excise officers arrested 235 people on 285 charges. Police says most of the tickets were alcohol-related but also included drug offenses, indecent exposure and resisting arrest.
