The Rant is The News-Sentinel's anonymous sound-off forum. The readers' views expressed here do not necessarily reflect the views or opinions of The News-Sentinel. Republican lawmakers in Indiana think it's OK to make me sign a form and show an ID to buy a bottle of cough syrup, but it's too much to ask that each gun bought and sold in this state require a background check. And they get votes.

The city spends on a new headquarters downtown, the Harrison, fancy lights on a bridge, welcome to downtown signs, the boondoggle Southtown Safety Academy. ... Oh, yeah, those pesky basic services, ... help, we need to raise your taxes if you still want those!

So wanting people and businesses to keep their walks cleared is being a crybaby now. It's a city ordinance. How would an elderly or disabled person feel walking on snow-covered pathways? Everyone has friends, family and neighbors that will do this for free — I am one of them.

Place us back in the Central time zone (where we should be), and the problem would be solved.

To the people who complain about Fort Wayne all of the time. Stop it. We have a great city. There is something to do all of the time. Get off of your couch and out of your house. Participate in events. Become the solution instead of the problem. Get involved to make Fort Wayne better.

To the complainer about the distance from Parkview Field to the riverbank. You can't walk five blocks? Well, rest assured, if the city develops the riverbanks, there will be shuttle service for those who physically can't walk the short distance.
