In an event that was scheduled for three rounds, but shortened to just one because of weather, the IPFW golf team tied for 22nd in a strong field at the C&F Bank Intercollegiate hosted by William & Mary.
IPFW closed out the round Tuesday, which was started on Sunday but had the round postponed because of weather, and delayed another day on Monday after snow closed the course.
The team totaled 305 strokes over the 18 holes, tying with Bowling Green, for 23rd in the field. No. 27 Tennessee won the event with a 285, while No. 16 Florida State and Michigan tied for second with a 287. Eastern Michigan placed fourth with a 288, while Notre Dame and William & Mary tied for fifth with a 289.
Drew Imel led the Mastodons with a one-round score of 74, placing in a tie for 40th in the field of 158. Bruno Carvalho took a tie for 58th with a 75, as Jacob Groninger placed in a tie for 91st with a 77.Drake Devereux and Dan Wert each carded a 79 to close out the scoring group for the Mastodons, tying for 115th overall.
The Mastodons return to action on April 6 when the squad competes in the NYX Hoosier Invitational, hosted at the Indiana University Golf Course.
