HAMMOND — A display showing how principles of freedom have evolved in America will be featured in an exhibit showcasing northwestern Indiana's role in the Civil War.
The Times in Munster reports the traveling "Freedom: A History of U.S." display is made up of 48 freestanding panels and divided into six sections.
The display includes reproductions of the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution and President Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation. The proclamation recently marked its 150th anniversary.
The exhibit is on loan from the Indiana Historical Society and will run from April 5 to May 3 at the Indiana Welcome Center in Hammond.
The event also will include a Union Army encampment, living history events performed by re-enactors, films, lectures and book signings.
