Three Ants big men post double-doubles vs. Maine

The Mad Ants opened up a three-game home stand with a dominating win over the Maine Red Claws.

Six players scored in double figures and the Ants shot 53.6 percent from the field to beat Maine 107-93 on Thursday at Memorial Coliseum.

The win brought Fort Wayne (22-21) within a half-game behind Erie (23-21) for the eighth-and-final playoff spot. The Ants have seven games remaining. They play Austin at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Rio Grande Valley at 5 p.m. Sunday at the coliseum.

Ron Howard led the Ants with 20 points and Tony Mitchell scored 18 against Maine. Three of the Ants' big men recorded double-doubles: Brandon Wallace (16 points, 13 rebounds), Terrance Thomas (12 points, 12 rebounds) and Tommy Smith (14 points, 11 rebounds).

The Ants held Maine to 11 points in the third quarter to seize control.

Maine (23-23) was led by Jermaine Taylor with 31 points.

The Ants have won six of their last eight games as they seek the franchise's first NBA Development League playoff berth.
