New Haven High School boy's basketball coach Al Gooden spoke with The News-Sentinel following his team's win over Wayne in the IHSAA Class 4A Sectional at Huntington North on Friday.
On the strong third quarter:
“We kind of settled back in our zone. You know, they hit some god shots in the first half, and in the second half we were setting down in our defense and rebound the ball pretty good."
On the faster pace in the second half:
“You know, we have a pretty good, quick team. We've got to push up a little bit more and get it inside.”
On scoring in transition:
“They're seniors, they're pretty good about shooting good shots, you know, and they've become pretty good about finding the open man. They're a basketball team and they play together.”
On the defensive changes in the second half:
“We were just going to sit back in that zone and you know and play a little zone, give 'em a break from that man-to-man because they play so hard in that man-to-man. Sometimes, we can't play our man-to-man because of our aggression and they call fouls on us.”
On Jabar Ray's night shooting:
“Jabar is a good shooter. You know, he shoots from three, so that's alright. We weren't calling any plays, just running the offense.”
