Fort Wayne man reportedly shot at his home in attempted robbery

Tuesday, February 26, 2013 - 5:22 pm

Fort Wayne Police say a man reported being shot Monday during an attempted robbery at his home.

Officers responded sometime between 10 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Monday to a house in the 2700 block of Plaza Drive, on the city's southeast side, according to police reports. Police said they found the shooting victim lying on couch in the front room, wearing a blood-soaked white T-shirt.

The man told police he had answered a knock at the front door, where he was met by a heavyset man with a handgun, the reports said. The heavy man said “This is a robbery” before firing his weapon, the victim told police.

The victim did not tell police of any missing property and could not provide information about which direction the robber fled, the reports said. The robber was described as being in his 40s with a full beard and gray jacket.

The shooting victim was taken to a Fort Wayne hospital in serious condition, the reports said.
