The hospital will “continue to open additional inpatient beds incrementally until all 24 beds are open, estimated by the end of March. We will continue to use local community partners for the highest complexity patients.”
In October, the VA hospital announced that its inpatient operations had been "temporarily paused" at the Intensive Care Unit and Acute Medical Unit at the Fort Wayne VA medical facility, 2121 Lake Ave.
In October, the VA said the “pause” would allow the health care system "to review our processes, provide training to our staff, and ensure our continued ability to maintain the most flexible systems and highest standard of care for our veterans."
The VA reopened its inpatient Acute Medical Unit on Dec. 3 as the first phase of its resuming care. During that first phase that began in December, only blood transfusion and chemotherapeutic infusion patients were treated. The “staff has received support and training to ensure our continued ability to maintain high-quality care and services for the veterans we are honored to serve.”
