Kayla Drake is winding down her career at Saint Francis in stellar fashion. The senior guard put in 34 points and notched her first double-double of her career at the school to lead Saint Francis to a 78-57 Crossroads League women's basketball victory over Marian on Wednesday.
In addition to her scoring, Drake added 11 rebounds to help the Cougars remain in first place in the league.
Saint Francis (26-3, 15-2 CL) will close its regular season on Saturday at the Hutzell Athletic Center, as it hosts Mount Vernon Nazarene at 1:30 p.m. A victory Saturday can clinch its first regular-season championship since 2005-06.
Wednesday's victory gave Saint Francis its most wins since 2006-07, when it finished 28-8.
Norwell High School grad Jenelle Wilson added 12 points in the victory, while Skylarr Shurn finished with 10. The win allowed the Cougars to sweep the season series with the Knights.
Drake's 34 points bested a 33-point effort she had as a freshman at IPFW in 2008-09. Her previous high this season was 22 in two different games. She also topped her previous Saint Francis career best of 25 in her first appearance for the Cougars against Indiana Tech earlier this season.
