Win keeps Hoosiers in tie for Big Ten lead

Thursday, February 14, 2013 - 12:02 am

BLOOMINGTON – Indiana once again shares the Big Ten lead.

The No. 1 Hoosiers overcame a sluggish start to beat underdog Nebraska 76-47 Wednesday night.

IU matched Michigan State's 10-2 Big Ten record. It is 22-3 overall.

Nebraska, which was within three points with two minutes left in the first half, fell to 12-13 and 3-9. It hosts Michigan State on Saturday.

The Hoosiers get another chance at a lopsided victory when they host rival Purdue on Saturday. They won last month's meeting in West Lafayette 97-60.

IU dominated without getting much early from forward Cody Zeller, who was slowed by foul trouble. He finished strong and wound up with 16 points and five rebounds in 18 minutes.

Victor Oladipo, as he has for so much of the season, led with 13 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Christian Watford had 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Nebraska was led by Dylan Tallee's 16 points.

IU opened as a 20-point-plus favorite, which didn't faze Nebraska early. It controlled the pace, dominated the boards and hit its shots. The Cornhuskers had six turnovers in the first nine minutes, but IU's 2-for-11 shooting negated that. Nebraska led 12-9.

IU eventually went on a 10-0 run -- all without Zeller, who was sidelined with two fouls -- to take a 27-18 halftime lead.

Still, Nebraska was in range even with 0 assists and 10 turnovers, plus 0-for-8 three-point shooting.

That didn't last long. Oladipo scored off a rebound basket. Jordan Hulls drained a three-pointer. Watford had a dunk. IU led 34-18 and the rout was on.
