Defense, the backbone of the Norwell girls basketball team, helped the Knights to their third straight Class 3A sectional title.

Norwell beat Heritage 76-42 on Saturday at Mississinewa High School, spurred by a defense that forced 25 turnovers.

Junior Kelsey Beer and senior Paige Frisch led the Knights with 14 points apiece. Laken Chaney added 11.

Heritage was led by sophomore Kendall Knapke with 14 points. Senoir Miriah Bradtmueller added nine.

Norwell scored 30 points in the first quarter and led 51-26 at halftime.

Fifth-ranked Norwell (21-3) will play No.2 Hamilton Heights (20-2) next Saturday at the Bellmont Regional. No.11 Concordia Lutheran (17-6) plays No.3 NorthWood (22-3) in the other regional game.

In other sectional finals:

Class 4A

Meredith Shipman scored 21 points, Deja Wimby 13 (with eight steals) and Bryanna Moore 12 to lead the Snider Panthers to a 69-27 win over Northrop in the Class 4A Snider Sectional.

No.16 Snider (20-3) will play No.4 Logansport 24-1) in the Kokomo Regional next week. No.11 South Side (21-3) will play No.10 Westfield (21-2) in the other regional game.

Class 2A

Bishop Luers built a 35-0 halftime lead and knocked off South Adams 54-13 to win the Class 2A Bluffton Sectional.

Luers was led by Allison Butler and Taya Andrews with 12 points apiece and Addie Reimbold with 10.

Luers (12-11) will play Westview (15-8) in the Rochester Regional.

Class A

No.1 Canterbury had four players with at least 16 points in beating Bethany Christian 87-34 to the Class A Canterbury Sectional.

Darby Maggard and Aaliyah Gaines scored 20 points apiece, Kindell Fincher scored 17 and Bailey Farley 16. Fincher also pulled down 11 rebounds and Maggard and Gaines each had five assists.

Canterbury (21-3) will play West Central (14-9) in the Caston Regional.
