A Fort Wayne man faces a drunken driving charge after a Fort Wayne Police officer allegedly found him sleeping in a running vehicle, which was blocking traffic.Officer R. Honeycutt responded to a report of an unconscious driver at 10:58 p.m. Thursday at Nuttman Avenue and Freeman Street, according to a report. Honeycutt reportedly tried to get the man, who was in the driver's seat of the running vehicle, which appeared to be in park, to wake up by shining a flashlight into the man's eyes and knocking on the window. After a few attempts and yelling at the man, he woke up.

Honeycutt saw the man's eyes were red and he smelled of alcohol, according to the report. When Honeycutt asked the man why he was parked in a running vehicle in the roadway the man responded that he was meeting a friend, according to the report.

"It appeared to me (name redacted) may have thought he was parked at his friend's house at that time," Honeycutt wrote. "I asked (name redacted) if he had been drinking and driving. He told me 'yes' he only had three beers and was able to drive."

Honeycutt administered a preliminary breath test on the man, then took him to Allen County Lock-up for a chemical test, which registered a 0.15 percent blood-alcohol level, according to the report.

The man was charged with operating while intoxicated.
