Indiana coach Tom Crean spoke with the media following the No. 1 Hoosiers' 74-72 loss at Illinois Thursday night. We over helped (on defense) rather than staying committed to the corners. That's when (D.J. Richardson) hit us (with three-pointers). When you go against great talent, which this league is full of, you have to stay committed for 40 minutes. You have to keep your chest in front of the ball, keep the communication high.It was a broken play. We didn't want to give them a chance to set up and win the game on a lob. They were out of timeouts. We had two. We didn't communicate well. We didn't make a switch at the end.

At the end of game offensively we wanted to make it a one possession game. We did not want to call a timeout. We wanted to keep the game in movement. If we don't get what we wanted, try to get something going down the middle of the floor. We didn't keep the game in movement enough. They made some threes and they got momentum because we didn't stay where we needed to defensively. That hurt us. I'll never roll anybody under the bus. We can get better from this. Illinois earned it. We'll turn around and get ourselves ready to go again quickly.

“Our guys were ready. They were prepared. They respected Illinois. There was no overlooking them. We turned the ball over and we didn't stay committed to what we had to do at the end of the game
