Spartans pull away from Carroll and Snider

Homestead High School's girls swimming team used its depth and talent to take the Fort Wayne Sectional on Saturday at South Side's Helen P. Brown Natatorium.Homestead scored 597 points to take the championship. Carroll was second with 409.5 and Snider was third with 395.5. Bishop Dwenger and Concordia Lutheran rounded out the top five.

Homestead junior Caroline Weigand set a sectional record in winning the 100 breaststroke in 1:02.34. She also swam a leg on the winning 200 medley relay.

Homestead senior Bailey Pressey won the 100 butterfly, the 100 backstroke and swam a leg on the winning 200 medley relay. Homestead junior Reagan Cook won the 200 IM and swam on the 200 medley relay. Katie Krivacs was the fourth member of the winning 200 medley relay.

Snider sophomore Michaela Mintch set a sectional record in winning the 50 freestyle in 23.71 seconds. She also won the 100 freestyle.

Other winners included Snider's Georgia Baldus in the 200 free, Snider's Hannah Miller in the 500 free, Carroll's relay team of Courtney Kreal, Lauren Blanchard, Mykenzie Kostka and Zoe Toscos in the 200 and 400 freestyle relay, and Homestead's Bailey Wills in the 1-meter diving
