Program seeks to honor senior volunteers

Home Instead Senior Care is asking for nominations in the Salute to Senior Service program so older adult volunteers may be recognized for their many contributions to their communities.Friends, family, co-workers and nonprofit organizations are encouraged to nominate deserving seniors for possible state as well as national honors.

Nominations will be accepted Feb. 1 through March 31, a company news release said. State winners will be chosen by popular vote April 15-30 at www.salutetoseniorservice.com. The winners from each state will receive $500 to donate to a nonprofit organization of their choice, the news release said.

Their story also will be posted on the Salute to Senior Service Wall of Fame online.

Then senior care experts will select the national Salute to Senior Service winner, who will receive $5,000 to donate to a charity of his or her choosing.

Nominees must be age 65 or older and volunteer a minimum 15 hours a month, the news release said. Older adults may nominate themselves.

To submit a nomination form online or to view the official rules, visit www.salutetoseniorservice.com. Completed forms also may be mailed to Salute to Senior Service, P.O. Box 285, Bellevue, NE 68005.
