Man charged with robbery and criminal confinement

Devonte M. Hamlet, 21, of the 3500 block of Smith Street, has been charged with two counts of robbery, class B felonies, and three counts of criminal confinement, class B felonies.

According to the affidavit for probable cause, on Jan. 10, a woman was returning home from work when Hamlet and another man forced her into her apartment at gunpoint. Once in the apartment, Hamlet ordered the woman, and a man who was in the apartment off the couch onto the floor where they were bound his feet and hands with duct tape. The woman was bound with zip ties. They left the man's daughter on the couch binding her with zip ties as well. Both the man and woman were searched for valuables. After going through the woman's purse they demanded the pin number to her debit card, saying they would kill them if they she didn't tell them. Once they had her pin number the men left with the wallet, keys debit card, a black pair of Abercrombie jeans and a 24-inch flat screen T.V.

The couple cut themselves free and called 911.

According to court documents, on Jan. 15, the woman was shown various photos and was able to identify Hamlet. A lab report found Hamlet's fingerprints on the duct tape that had bound the male subject. Investigators said Hamlet denied any part in the robbery and said he couldn't understand how his fingerprints showed up on the duct tape.
