A pedestrian was critically injured when he was struck by a semi Monday night in the 2500 block of West Coliseum Boulevard's access road.
A driver of the semi tractor with a dual trailer turned eastbound onto the frontage access road and said he didn't see the victim, according to a Fort Wayne Police news release. The 27 years old victim, whose name was not released, was struck by the semi, which was going at low speed, according to the release from FWPD spokesman Sgt. Mark Brooks.
Medics took the victim in critical condition to a local hospital, where he was upgraded to critical, but stable condition.
At the time of the accident, the National Weather Service listed the visibility at less than a quarter of a mile with drizzle in the greater Fort Wayne area, according to the report. That and the fact that the victim was wearing dark, non-reflective clothing were likely factors in this crash, according to the report.
This incident remains under investigation by members of the Fort Wayne Police Department Fatal Alcohol Crash Team.
