Indiana Tech’s top-ranked defense shut down visiting Marygrove College on Wednesday, while senior Antonio Cannon poured in a game-high 20 points to lead the No. 20 Warriors to an 81-35 win in the Schaefer Center.
The Warriors entered the night allowing the fewest points per game in the nation (52.2) along with the fourth best field goal percent defense (0.376), held Marygrove to a mere 25 percent shooting from the floor while forcing the Mustangs into 21 turnovers.
Indiana Tech (13-3, 6-2 WHAC) began the game on a 13-2 run, highlighted by a pair of Cannon dunks, before Marygrove closed the deficit to four, 19-15, midway through the first half. However, the Warriors would end the period on a 20-4 run to take a commanding 39-19 lead at the break.
The Warrior defense dominated in the second holding Marygrove scoreless for an 11 minute stretch allowing the offense to pull away for the victory.
Indiana Tech shot 52 percent for the game and grabbed 43 rebounds compared to Marygrove’s 32.
Cannon added five rebounds and three steals to his 20 points. Junior Jeff Hoskins contributed 17 points and seven assists.
Senior Melvin Brooks notched his fourth double-double of the season with 11 points and 13 rebounds.
The Warriors will travel to the University of Northwestern Ohio Saturday at 3 p.m.
