A Noble County man was hurt Thursday after he drove a snowmobile out of his garage by accident and crashed head-on into a tree, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources said.

According to a DNR news release, Christopher W. Hackman, 57, was working on the snowmobile at about 11 a.m. in a detached garage west of his home in the 5500 block of East Baseline Road. When Hackman sat on the snowmobile and started it, the throttle stuck open, causing the vehicle to accelerate out of the garage, the release said.

The snowmobile went about 100 yards and struck a small tree, throwing Hackman from the vehicle, the release said. Noble County EMS treated Hackman at the scene for a leg injury. He was then taken to a Fort Wayne hospital by ambulance.
