Ground broken on $2 million recycling center

Ground was broken Friday on a new $2 million recycling and transfer facility that will create up to 15 jobs when it opens next spring.

Earth First, a four-year-old waste disposal firm, is adding the 20,000-square-foot facility near its headquarters at 4429 Allen Martin Drive. In addition to recycling construction materials such materials as brick, concrete, drywall and wood, the center will also recycl plastics, metals, glass and paper.

Earth First currently serves more than 12,000 customers and has about 25 employees.
