A Fort Wayne woman faces up to 40 years in prison after admitting Monday that she caused the deaths of two people by driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
Corina Hurtado, 50, pleaded guilty in Allen Superior Court to two felony counts of causing death by operating a vehicle while under the influence of a controlled substance. The charges stemmed from a May 8 crash that resulted in the deaths of 79-year-old Harold Bebout and his wife Starr, 74, both of Fort Wayne.
Under the plea agreement, Hurtado could serve at least 20 years in prison, with a maximum sentence of 40 years. But prosecutors agreed to drop the 10 other charges against her, including two counts of murder.
Police have said Hurtado was driving drunk and with cocaine in her bloodstream when her Ford F250 pickup crashed into the Bebouts' minivan at Fairfield Avenue and Taylor Street, killing Harold Bebout and leaving Starr in serious condition. Starr Bebout later died from her injuries.
