Kosicusko County head-on crash seriously injures two

Saturday, November 17, 2012 - 6:41 am

A Friday morning head-on crash just south of Leesburg in Kosciusko County left two people seriously injured.

The incident took place some time around 11:48 a.m., according to a news release from the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department. Deputies and emergency personnel responded to a reported vehicle crash on State Road 15.

Firefighters from two fire departments - Leesburg/Plain Township and Warsaw/Wayne Territory - were needed to extract the drivers from both vehicles involved in the crash, according to the release. Both were airlifted to Parkview Regional Medical Center.

According to the release, preliminary investigation indicates that a 2012 Ford Edge driven by 41-year-old Jennifer M. Gholson, of Warsaw, was southbound when it crossed over the center line. The Ford Edge struck a northbound 1998 GMC pickup truck that was being driven by Sam E. Crace, also 41, of Roann.

Crace sustained extensive injuries to his lower extremities, according to the release, while Gholson had serious internal injuries.

Investigators are still trying to determine why Gholson's vehicle may have crossed the center line, with the investigation being handled by the Kosciusko County F.A.C.T. Crash Investigation Team.
