Four mental-health therapists will discuss helping children heal during the program “Wrap Your Arms Around These Kids and Heal Their Pain” at 10 a.m. Saturday in Studio A at Access Fort Wayne, in the downtown Allen County Public Library, 900 Library Plaza.
Mental-health therapist and mother Dottie Fuentes will discuss her passion for helping others and lead a discussion with mental-health therapists Vanessa Hogan, Linda Hartley and Tom Carder, Theater for Ideas founder Terry Doran said in an email.
Carder is the author of the book “Discovering the Lost Key: Using Your Natural Born Gifts to Bring Healing.” He hopes to help people by giving away 40,000 copies of his book, Doran said.
Theater for Ideas also will host the third program in its helping children series at 2 p.m. Dec. 8 in Studio A at Access Fort Wayne. It will feature a performance of the dance “For The Children.”
The performance began as a poem written by Patty Hunter, a guest on the first program in the series, “The Healing Power of Art,” which was presented Oct. 13, Doran said.
The poem inspired local rap artist Chuy Fernandez and vocalist Hilaria Heredia to collaborate on a song, also titled “For the Children,” Doran said.
After hearing the song on the first program, Kate Majorins, a guest on the show and a teacher at Fort Wayne Dance Collective, choreographed an original dance to the music and lyrics of the song.
The transformation of the poem to song and dance illustrates the power of art to inspire and transform, Doran said. The theme for the 2013 Indiana State Fair will be popcorn because Indiana is the nation's second largest popcorn producer, the fair announced.
