Restaurant news: Wine-tasting event will help fight cystic fibrosis

A wine-tasting event is being planned to raise money to support research for a cure for cystic fibrosis.The Indiana Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation will host the ninth annual Lutheran Health Network Wine Opener presented by the Mary Cross Tippmann Foundation on Nov. 17 at the Lincoln Tower lobby, 116 E. Berry St. A VIP reception from 5:30 to 7 p.m. is followed by the main event from 7 to 10 p.m.

Those 21 and older can sample wines and appetizers from several area restaurants. Participating vendors include Cap n' Cork, Casa Ristorante, Club Soda, DeBrand Fine Chocolates, Blondies Cookies, Bandido's, Geoglein's Catering and the Olive Twist.

VIP tickets are $250 ($180 is tax-deductible) and main event tickets are $55 ($27 is tax-deductible) with all proceeds benefiting the Indiana Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. All food and drinks are included in the ticket price.On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt, 2870 E. Dupont Road, will donate 10 percent of its total sales to Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana.All veterans and active-duty military are invited to O'Charley's on Monday for a complimentary meal from the "$9.99er" menu. Be sure to bring your military ID or proof of service. In Fort Wayne O'Charley's is at 1220 S. Illinois Road.You bet. Saturday through Nov. 18 is National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, and if you want to sacrifice a little to help fight the battle of hunger in our community, just skip lunch one day to benefit the Rescue Mission.

Take the money you would spend, place it in an envelope and deliver or mail it to the Rescue Mission, 301 W. Superior St., Fort Wayne, IN 46802. According to the Rescue Mission, $5 is about what a person spends on lunch daily, and for that $5 the Rescue Mission can provide three hot, nutritious meals to the hungry in Fort Wayne. Dupont Road, is rolling out a new menu starting with some lunch specials now through Thanksgiving. New items include drunken catfish (beer-battered using Guinness); chicken or pork enchiladas; eggplant or chicken Parmesan; and a smoked salmon club with bacon and guacamole.

It also plans to offer daily lunch features for $7.77 including a soft drink, available 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

On consecutive Saturdays this Saturday and Nov. 17 and 24, The Lucky Moose will offer a buffet for $13.13 that will include royal red shrimp; Jamaican triggerfish, which is similar to grouper; drunken catfish; chicken Parmesan; enchiladas; steak and chicken teriyaki; a salad bar; and a crepe station with dessert crepes.•The Landmark Conference and Reception Centre has broken ground on its new Landmark Gardens at 6222 Ellison Road. •Ceruti's Catering is opening a new location. Ceruti's Banquet and Event Center is at 6325 Illinois Road, next to Lucky Harley-Davidson. The 15,000-square-foot venue can seat 800 guests. Albright's Meats and Deli, 4924 S. Calhoun St., is ready to supply those who will be cooking Nov. 22 with fresh, all-natural turkeys, Ossian and Emge hams, and rib roasts in any size.

Albright's will use its in-house hickory smoker to prepare smoked turkeys and turkey breasts, ducks, cottage hams, Canadian bacon, and andouille and kielbasa sausage.
