K-9 donation
Group Dekko made a monetary donation to the Garrett Police Department, which will aid in the purchase of a K-9 for drug enforcement.
Walk raises funds
The Alzheimer's Association's Indiana Walk to End Alzheimer's events raised $1.4 million for care, support and research programs.
Send cards to military
The American Red Cross is collecting and distributing cards that send words of encouragement, gratitude and cheer to military personnel, veterans and their families through Dec. 7.

Great Tree Canopy Comeback
The 11th annual Great Tree Canopy Comeback takes place at 10 a.m. Saturday at Foster, McMillen, Repka, Metea and Heatherwood parks. Volunteers may register at 417-3804 or www.fortwayneparks.org.
Collection for troops
Biolife Plasma Services' employees will collect items for Operation U.S. Troop Support from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday and Nov. 10 at Gander Mountain, 6043 Lima Road. The items will be sent to U.S. soldiers serving overseas and to injured soldiers recovering stateside.
Items needed by soldiers include wools socks, beef jerky, letters of support, toiletries, snacks and lip balm. For a complete list of needed items, go to www.operationustroopsupport.org and click on the “How Can I Help” tab.
Cash donations also are welcomed to help with shipping costs. Checks should be made payable to Operation U.S. Troop Support, Inc.
Turkey rally
Community Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Indiana will collect food and funds for Turkey Rally 2012 5-11 p.m. Thursday at 999 E. Tillman Road. Frozen turkeys, hams, holiday food items and monetary donations will help provide holiday meals to those who are struggling this year.
Funds raised for programs
Early Childhood Alliance's Plank-A-Palooza! fundraiser raised $10,500 for parent programs to benefit children and families in the community.
