To justify this thinking the argument is made that government has made all prosperity possible; hence, government has a right to control all property, including its redistribution.
Obama makes it sound as if he was critical to the success of my business and therefore he has the right to take its earnings and give it to his supporters.
Funny. When I was working 60-80 hours a week for years, I don't remember seeing him around. What exactly did the great Obama do to help me succeed? Was he answering the phones? Did he help us find new clients? Did he do some bookkeeping I was unaware of?
In fairness, Obama would claim it is the leviathan of government that caused my success and not necessarily him personally.
Well, if “we are all in it together” there are a few things I would like Obama to do for me.
Back during the times I was building my business I spent 30 hours a week driving, and now the cartilage in my knees is diminished. Obama may be unaware of this, but I am reminded of it 24/7. If Obama wants most of my earnings from those years because “we are all in it together,” I was wondering if he could return my cartilage.
Or maybe he can get back the time I missed with my father when he was dying of cancer, because it was during a critical juncture for my business.
Maybe he could restore some of the time I sacrificed relaxing and having fun. Many of his supporters don't work at all, so this shouldn't be asking much.
If Obama has a right to take my income to pay off his voters, will he at least give me some of what I surrendered to build my company? I suspect you all know the answer to that question.
In 1912, the federal government used only 2 percent of the nation's economy to operate, yet 44 percent of the world's manufacturing goods came from the United States. We ruled the world in production and innovation, and we did it largely because we had a tiny government and no Federal Reserve.
Obama paints a picture that only through massive government spending can business succeed. However, in 1912 business did far better than today, and there was almost no government. How can that be if massive government is the key to our success?
Obama would have us believe that our greatness comes from government. It doesn't. Increasingly it is government that is destroying what lingers of our greatness.
Obama's attitude toward business owners isn't just wrong, it is offensive. Sorry, Obama. Yours is a snake oil we just aren't willing to buy anymore.
