"I think that is great, and both Mario and Frank have opportunities to have really good years," IPFW coach Tony Jasick said.
Gaines averaged 21.2 points per game last season while pulling down a team-high 176 rebounds and making 41 steals.
He shot 44.5 percent from the field (207-of-465), and 34.5 percent (49-of-142) from long range. Gaines closed the season strong, scoring at least 26 points in each of his last six games and reaching 30 in half of those games.
Hines put up 7.1 points and 4.5 rebounds per game as a junior, blocking a team-high 20 shots and shooting 55 percent (82-of-149).
"It is our hope that our players would get this type of recognition at the end of the season," Jasick said. "The preseason honors are great for the fans, but it is the stuff at the end of the season that really carries weight."
Joining Gaines on the first team are Preseason Player of the Year Nate Wolters of South Dakota State, Ceola Clark of Western Illinois, Taylor Braun of North Dakota State, and Terell Parks of Western Illinois.
