Shopping column: A Renaissance in Roanoke features art, music, food

There also will be activities for children.

Friday, October 12, 2012 - 12:01 am

On Saturday Roanoke's Main Street will be transformed into the town's annual outdoor art show called A Renaissance in Roanoke from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

More than 50 juried local and regional artists will display and sell their original art with demonstrations by some of the artists. Visitors are encouraged to vote for their favorite artist. Also on display are three scholastic art competitions: college, high school and the local Roanoke Elementary School.

Artists participating in the plein air art competition will arrive as early as 8 a.m. and set up their easels around town to paint or draw a scene in Roanoke. Throughout the day visitors can watch the images being created.

This show offers an opportunity for the public to meet the artists and purchase from them. There will be children's art activities, music and food vendors. For more information, go to www.RenaissanceinRoanoke.org.
