Comedian Pauly Shore has hit the campaign trail. Yes and no.
Shore has been working on Showtime's “Pauly Shore's Pauly-tics” special, “Pauly Shore Goes to Washington,” and he's hitting the stand-up circuit to promote it and a sweepstakes offer through his website www.paulyshore.com.
Shore will travel throughout the Midwest this month, with stops in Toledo, Mishawaka, Fort Wayne and Indianapolis. He appears Tuesday at Snickerz.
Shore, who spoke via phone from the West Coast, said he'll perform some of the material featured on his Showtime special, which will air at 9 p.m. Oct. 26.
“I like performing in places I've never performed in before,” he said. “It's the political season. The material is fresh for everyone.”
The Showtime special features Shore's interviews with Larry King, Michael Steel, Herman Cain, Ralph Nader and Barney Frank, as Shore seeks to understand American politics in a comical sense.
Shore explained it took some doing to convince politicians to allow themselves to be interviewed by him. “They are very untrustworthy. People explained who I am. I'm not crazy. You kind of pitch it to them like 'SNL' or Jon Stewart. Politicians have a sense of humor,” he said.
The Oct. 26 special was shot at the 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C. An unedited version will stream live on Nov. 6 on his website and will be available for download at $5 each through Paypal for a chance to win a $100,000 sweepstakes.
Shore also said no-purchase, mail-in entries must be received by Jan. 14, with one entry per envelope.
There must be 100,000 entries by Jan. 2 to validate the sweepstakes, and a winner will be announced Jan. 20 — Inauguration Day.
