TV Diary: Fighting crime with 'Starsky and Hutch'

Tuesday, August 14, 2012 - 12:01 am

One of my favorite shows on TV was “Starsky and Hutch” (1975-79). Each week, I'd grab a bottle of Faygo Fruit Punch and sit down to an action-packed hour of crime-solving. I even kept a diary of dialogue exchanges between characters (hence the title of this column).

The crime-fighting duo (played by David Soul and Paul Michael Glaser) received help from their snitch Huggy Bear, who was portrayed by Antonio Fargas. In celebration of Fargas' birthday today (born in 1944), what do you remember about this show?

1. Who played Capt. Harold Dobey?

2. What was Hutch's first name?

3. David Soul's live-in love at the time co-starred in a few episodes. Can you name her?

4. What was the make and model of Starsky's car?

5. In the episode “Starsky's Lady,” what happened to Starsky's girlfriend?

6. This “Hill Street Blues” alum starred as Hutch's ex-wife.

7. What was their radio call sign?

8. What were the two names of Huggy Bear's bar?

9. On which network did “Starsky and Hutch” air?

10. What was the make and model of Hutch's car?

Answers: 1. Bernie Hamilton. 2. Kenneth. 3. Lynne Marta. 4. Ford Gran Torino. 5. She carried a bullet in her brain as the result of a vindictive father who blamed Starsky for his son's prison death. 6. Veronica Hamel. 7. Zebra Three. 8. Huggy Bear's, then it became The Pits. 9. ABC. 10. Ford Galaxie 500.
