'Speed definitely a factor' in motorcycle crash that killed 2

Thursday, July 12, 2012 - 7:51 am

A man and woman on a motorcycle were killed Tuesday night in a crash at Schwartz and Notestine roads.

The Allen County coroner's office has identified them as Lucas T. Morrolf, 32, and Janiece Malcolm, 27, both of Fort Wayne.

Morrolf, who was driving, was found dead at the scene of the 10:03 p.m. crash. Malcolm was taken to a hospital but died a short time later. In both cases, cause of death was blunt-force injury. The manner of death for both people was ruled as accident.

Allen County Sheriff's Department spokesman Cpl. Jeremy Tinkel said the motorcycle was southbound on Schwartz approaching Notestine and ran off the road, hitting a fence. Both victims flew off the motorcycle; Tinkel did not know Wednesday afternoon whether they had worn helmets.

“Speed was definitely a factor” in the wreck, he said.

The victims are the 19th and 20th traffic fatalities in Allen County in 2012. The crash is still being investigated by the Allen County Sheriff's Department and the coroner's office.
