FISHERS — Police broke a side window of a Ford Explorer SUV to rescue a 16-month-old girl who had been locked inside on a day temperatures hit a record 104 degrees in nearby Indianapolis.
Fishers Police Public Information Officer Tom Weger says police were called to a store parking shortly after 3 p.m. Saturday and found the child. Weger says the girl began having seizures shortly after being taken inside an air-conditioned building.
The girl was taken to Peyton Manning Children's Hospital in Indianapolis. Weger says he does not know her condition. A message seeking comment from the hospital spokesman was left Saturday by The Associated Press.
Weger says the girl's mother had been taken into custody and was charged with neglect. He says her name was not being immediately released.
