The Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor invites customers who buy water from Fort Wayne City Utilities to comment on the utility's request for higher water rates, either through written comments or at a field hearing May 31 in Fort Wayne.

The OUCC – which represents consumer interests in cases before the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission – is accepting written consumer comments for the case record through May 31.

The IURC has scheduled a field hearing May 31 in the Coliseum Campus Auditorium at Ivy Tech Community College – Northeast, 3800 N. Anthony Blvd. The public-comment portion will begin at 6 p.m. An informational session presented by the OUCC on the regulatory process and public field hearing procedures will precede the hearing, starting at 5:30 p.m.

Fort Wayne's current water rates were approved in September 2006. While the city's water rates are at issue in this case, state law does not give the IURC jurisdiction over municipal sewer rates.

The OUCC is reviewing the city's request and is scheduled to file testimony on June 1.
