Identities released of father, son dead after shooting

Friday, May 11, 2012 - 6:23 am

The Allen County Coroner's Office has released the identities of a man and his son who died after a shooting incident inside a residence Wednesday.

According to a news release, 77-year-old Glen R. Lantz died at the scene of the shootings, a home in the 500 block of Charlotte Avenue. Lantz's manner of death was ruled a homicide, the 10th of the year in Allen County, with the cause of death being gunshot wound. The coroner's office does not specify how many times a person was shot.

Glen Lantz's son William D. Lantz, 53, died Wednesday evening at Parkview Regional Medical Center, the release said. William Lantz's cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head, and the coroner's office ruled the manner of death to be a suicide.

No more details surrounding the incident were released.

At about 2:30 p.m. Wedneday, Fort Wayne Police Department officers responded to the Charlotte Avenue home in response to suicide threats made. When police arrived on the scene, they found both men inside the home suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds, police spokesman Christopher Adams said in a statement.

Another family member had called police to report one of the two men was threatening suicide, Police Department spokeswoman Officer Raquel Foster said.

Investigators are interviewing family members and neighbors, and the incident remains under investigation by the police department, Allen County Prosecutor's Office and the coroner's office.
