Tennis star Andre Agassi's new book offers startling revelations about his career, including the fact he used drugs and lied to cover up a positive test, and he sometimes wore a wig. Apparently, his marketing slogan should have been “Mirage is Everything.”
Say it ain't soFormer NBA referee Tim Donaghy claims in an unpublished manuscript that league referees show favoritism to star players. I can't wait to see if he reveals other secrets, such as the rumor LeBron James can jump really high.
Cornhusker can't stop hittingUniversity of Nebraska nose tackle Ndamukong Suh was ticketed for negligent driving after he hit three parked cars on a Lincoln, Neb., street early Sunday morning. Suh, whose blood-alcohol content was within the legal limit, told police he swerved to avoid hitting a dog. Later, that same dog ate his homework.
ESPN won't attend, either
Bob Knight contacted Indiana University Athletic Director Fred Glass and said he will not attend his induction into the IU Hall of Fame this week to avoid becoming a distraction and overshadowing the other inductees.
Knight's decision will make it easier for Indiana to manage the media coverage. They'll just tell the one lonely student newspaper reporter where to sit.
Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig said he welcomes Mark McGwire's return to the St. Louis Cardinals as a hitting instructor. No one questions McGwire's knowledge about hitting. And, really, anyone who can make members of Congress look like the upfront and honest ones deserves a second chance.
Only a matter of timeHendrick Motorsports announced that Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s interim crew chief, Lance McGrew, will remain with the team permanently. Or until Earnhardt wins another race, whichever comes first.
Contract negotiations?I realize the animosity between the Green Bay Packers and Brett Favre has reached an all-time high. Fans booed Favre when he returned to lead the Minnesota Vikings to a win in Green Bay. Still, I can't support the Packers' plan to retaliate by signing Fran Tarkenton.
Losers unite
The St. Louis Rams and the Tennessee Titans both won their first games of the NFL season on Sunday.
The Titans' opponents, the Jacksonville Jaguars, were frustrated and embarrassed by the loss.
The Rams' opponents said, “What? We're the Lions.”
